Skurken is an Icelandic electronic musician known for his unique blend of atmospheric sounds, intricate beats, and haunting melodies.
Also known as Jóhann Ómarsson – born in 1977 – he is a producer who has been
an active member of the electronic scene for already twenty-five years.
His music has been described as ethereal, haunting, and emotive.
He creates music that takes the listener on a journey, evoking feelings of nostalgia, introspection, and wonder. Not much into categorizing music in general, his work sometimes jumps between genres, and explores a broad palette of sounds, tempo, and sonic flavors, although firmly set in a rich universe of electronic music.
In 2022, Skurken released his 7th full-length album, "Dagur" with the British label Touched Music. The album was a tour-de-force of intricate beats, moody melodies, and atmospheric textures, and cemented Skurken's reputation as one of Iceland's most exciting and innovative electronic musicians. The album was a critical success and received positive reviews praising its sonic complexity and emotional depth.
A new album, called “Nótt” will be released in september this year.
Skurken’s music has been featured in films, TV shows and various festivals and venues in Iceland and abroad, including Sónar Reykjavik, Iceland Airwaves, Norbergfestival, TodayArts, and many more.
