ABOUT THE FILM

Hrafnamynd is a film that developed organically. There was no specific initial plan—only a desire to return to the mysterious land of my early childhood and to capture images of Icelandic ravens. I wanted to experience Iceland through their eyes, to become immersed in their landscapes.

Years earlier, I had done something similar with Crowfilm, which followed the crows of Portland, Oregon. Over the course of six years, I returned to Iceland multiple times, often staying in remote areas along the west coast. These long periods of isolation and growing familiarity drew me back to my father’s old slides. Revisiting them after so many years, I realized that my adult explorations were mirroring the journeys of my childhood—nearly fifty years earlier. From there, the film took shape naturally.

During the editing process, I began a collaborative friendship with Patricia Wolf. Her music felt like a perfect, intuitive match for the images. We both share a complementary way of interpreting environments. I began editing scenes with her music, and soon we were discussing the idea of an original score and immersive sound design. Everything came together, and Patricia’s work ultimately elevated the project far beyond my expectations.

ABOUT EDWARD PACK DAVEE

Edward Pack Davee creates unconventional narrative features and experimental documentaries. His work is known for quiet, atmospheric character studies, often marked by minimal dialogue and dreamlike imagery and sound. The environment is frequently an integral part of his storytelling.

Davee works across various formats, with a strong preference for motion picture film. He often experiments with alternative exposures and processing techniques. Sound is equally vital in his work—he frequently creates his own soundscapes or collaborates closely with like-minded sound artists.

“Director Edward Pack Davee has debuted with a strong first effort that’s a breath of fresh air… To say he marches to the beat of his own drum doesn’t begin to explain it; Davee appears to have thrown out the drumsticks… You will feel transported into a sort of tone poem dreamlike ambience.”

“Something about Davee’s full commitment to his vision makes it difficult to ignore. The imagery is similarly hard to shake…”
